Poisonous Flea Treatment Warning

W A R N I N G
When visiting my local vet last week, I came upon a poor little cat in their care whose owner had treated him with flea spray intended for his dog. The animal was fitting badly and there appeared to be no antidote to what amounted to a POISON in his system. Various drugs were administered which heavily sedated him but as soon as they wore off, the fitting started again. Four days later, he is apparently making a slow recovery, no longer having fits but the extent of brain damage is at present unknown.
The flea treatment had been purchased on special offer over the pet shop counter and although the exterior packaging was clearly marked "FOR DOG USE ONLY", there was no warning actually inside. Certain flea treatments on the market intended for dogs are in fact absolutely lethal to cats and unless owners realise this, tragic accidents such as this will continue to happen.
We recommend you be guided by your Vet at all times in the purchase of both flea and worming treatments. In an endeavour to save a couple of pounds, this owner has learnt the hard way finishing up with a £100+ veterinary bill.
